Tennis great Martina Navratilova who has 18 grand slam career wins informed her fans that she has been diagnosed with two forms of cancer. The 66 year is fighting breast and throat cancer and will start treatment from Jan 2023.
Navratilova has battled cancer in the past as she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and ended up beating it. She has been cancer free for over a decade.
Navratilova Confident Of Winning New Challenge
Navratilova said she noticed a large lymph node by her neck during the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas in Nov 2022. She underwent a biopsy and the results showed throat cancer – stage 1.
When they carried out further tests, they also found another lump in her breast which was also diagnosed as cancerous. The cancers belong to the human papillomavirus (HPV) which can be treated.
Navratilova said while it sucked to be diagnosed with cancer again, the positive news is that it is treatable. She said she knew she had a rough few months ahead of her but said that she would fight it with everything she had and was confident she will come out on the winning side.
