Argentina’s 2022 World Cup winning captain Lionel Messi is unlikely to renew his contact with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Messi who is currently on a €40 million contract with the French Club hasn’t been in the best of form for PSG after returning from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi Will Not Take 25 Percent Pay Cut
PSG were eliminated from the Champions League in March after losing to Bayern Munich and Messi had to shoulder a lot of the blame. A small section of PSG fans also ended up booing Messi during his last two games and Messi wasn’t very happy with how he was being treated by fans.
PSG is keen on retaining Messi but are reported to have asked him to take a 25 percent pay cut in his pay which Messi isn’t willing to do. Messi’s management and PSG have a meeting scheduled in April to see if they can reach a deal but sources say it is highly unlikely.
Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal is reported to be keen on signing Messi and getting him to join Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Football League. Al Hilal is allegedly willing to pay Messi a whopping €400 million per year but Messi isn’t likely to take the deal as he wants to play in Europe.
