UFC welterweight champ Leon Edwards was extremely happy to win his first title defense at UFC 286 when he beat former champ Kamaru Usman for the second consecutive time.
However, he was also upset during the post-fight press conference when he found out that UFC President Dana White had already decided who his next opponent was.
Edwards Will Not Fight Colby Covington
Colby Covington who fought for the UFC welterweight title twice and lost on both occasions to Kamaru Usman was the back-up fighter for the Edwards vs. Usman trilogy. White generally stays away from making new fights during the post-fight conference but he made an exception when he confirmed that Edwards will fight Covington next!
Edwards went on the MMA hour recently and took a shot at Dana White claiming that Colby Covington had ‘Dana White Privilege’ as he does not deserve a title shot after sitting out for over a year.
Edwards also said that he is the champ and will have a say in who he fights next and it will not be Covington. If Edwards does decide to not fight Covington next and go against Dana White, things could go downhill pretty quick and he might need to relinquish his UFC belt!
