Rohit Sharma took over the T20 captaincy of the Indian cricket team because of the enormous T20 success he had leading the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However things have not gone very well for Rohit Sharma since he was appointed T20 captain both in the IPL and in international T20 cricket.
Rohit Sharma Leadership Under Pressure
India failed to make the finals of the recent T20 Asia Cup were they were the defending champions. India have also lost the first T20 at home against Australia in the 3 match T20 series.
Indian cricket fans are concerned with the team’s performance and as usual the captain is the first person to feel that pressure. What is concerning for Indian cricket fans is that Rohit Sharma is not scoring runs at the top of the order consistently. Apart from being the captain, he is also one of the top two batsmen in the side.
Sharma’s struggle with the bat and India’s struggles in T20 cricket don’t bode well for the team as they prepare for the T20 World Cup which starts in October in Australia. If India ends up losing the T20 series at home to Australia, Sharma’s captaincy will come even more pressure!
