GGPoker has resumed normal operations after being hit by technical problems for several days which had affected many of the big events hosted by the site, including the World Series of Poker (WSOP) online bracelet series. Issues began to surface on September 17 and had not been fully resolved until September 20.
WSOP Online Main Event Postponed
The technical problems resulted in the postponement of Day 2 of the WSOP Online Main Event which will now take place on October 2. GGPoker had been communicative with players since the issues were first reported, keeping them updated on the situation.
The operator also assured players that they would be granted refunds for cancelled tournaments as per the site’s Refund Policy. For cash game players impacted by the issues, the remedy is pretty much straightforward – their chip count will be reverted to the amount they had during the start of the affected hand and the hand in question will be re-played.
Meanwhile, the refunds for those engaged in MTT games when the problems occurred will be handled on a case-to-case basis.
Potential DDoS Attack
GGPoker did not disclose the main cause of the service disruption, but many are speculating that the site may have been hit by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. This type of attack is usually carried out by hackers in an attempt to shut down websites.
