Former two time, WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua (AJ) fought on April 1 and defeated American Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision. AJ would have preferred an impressive KO win as it would have silenced his critics who don’t believe he has that championship mentality anymore.
AJ Confirms Next Fight In Dec
The fight wasn’t spectacular as both fighters played it safe and AJ did not suffer any serious damage in the fight. Boxing fans were expecting AJ to return to the ring in July 2023 but it appears unlikely now as AJ’s camp has confirmed that his next appearance will be only in December 2023.
Reports suggest that AJ’s camp has decided to take an extended break as they want the 33 year old to spend some time with new trainer Derrick James and work on his areas of improvement. AJ has said that he wants to have one more crack at becoming the heavyweight champ before he retires from boxing!
Manager Eddie Hearn says that they would like to fight Dillian Whyte next but will also be open to a potential fight with Tyson ‘the Gypsy King’ Fury.
