PokerStars has been launching new offerings in recent months, most of which have been getting significant news coverage. The online poker operator ran a special “Mobile Stars” event which ran as part of the Sunset Series that did not get a lot of media attention.
Mobile Stars Hits PokerStars US
Mobile Stars was played as a classic 8-Max tournament on July 26, and featured an affordable buy-in of $5, with a guarantee of $2,500 for the merged pool between New Jersey and Michigan, and $1,500 for Pennsylvania.
The tournament came up short of hitting the required number of players but PokerStars could have done it on purpose as it wanted to attract attention to the tournament.
First of Its Kind
Mobile Stars marked the first time that an online poker operator hosted a tournament exclusive to mobile players. Hosting such a kind of event came as a surprise to many, but it could form part of PokerStars’ efforts to attract casual players, a large number of whom play on the PokerStars mobile app.
Through mobile-exclusive events, casual players get a fair chance of winning, and PokerStars could very well run a similar event for its dot-com client.
