The United States is expected to be one of the fastest growing markets for cricket and things are expected to heat up over the next couple of years. The ICC T20 World Cup is set to take place in June 2024 across the United States and the West Indies.
However, prior to the 2024 T20 World Cup, American cricket fans will be treated to some exciting T20 action with the launch of Major League Cricket (MLC).
2023 Major League Cricket Tournament
The MLC is the latest T20 domestic tournament that is making waves in the global cricket community. The tournament will feature a total of 6 MLC franchises and take place across North Carolina and Texas during a 3 week window which commences from July 13.
The six MLC franchises will be based out of San Francisco, New York City, Washington D.C., Dallas, Seattle and Los Angeles. These six franchises will have a salary cap of $1.5 million and a total team size of 18 players, out of which 7 can from overseas.
MLC franchises have already signed some big names from Australia with former Aussie captain Aaron Finch and all-rounders Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis confirming their participation for the inaugural edition!
