One of the reasons why the UFC is so popular with combat sports fans is because unlike boxing, the UFC always looks to make fights where the best fighters in the division fight each other.
Volkanovski is ranked number 1 on the UFC’s pound for pound (P4P) rankings while Islam is ranked number 2. Islam is keen to not only have his first successful title defense but also claim the number 1 P4P ranking.
The co-Main event will see Yair Rodriguez fight Josh Emmett to determine who will be the number one contender and challenge Volkanovski next.
The UFC has put together a stacked card for UFC 284 which features a number of top Aussie fighters including Tyson Pedro, Jack Della Maddalena and Jimmy Crute.
