Francis Ngannou decided to relinquish his UFC heavyweight strap and say no to a lucrative UFC contract because the UFC did not give into all his demands.
Ngannou decided to walk away from what UFC President Dana White called the most lucrative contract any heavyweight fighter has had in the promotion.
Fury Cracks April Fool Joke On Ngannou
Ngannou who was on a 6 fight win streak in the UFC, left the promotion in Jan 2023 and said he was keen to pursue a heavyweight boxing fight with Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder and wanted a $30 million pay day.
Fury posted a picture on April 1 on Instagram teasing fans of a potential boxing fight with Ngannou only for fans to realize that it was an April Fool’s joke! While boxing fans can have a laugh at the joke, it does not look good for Ngannou as a fight with Fury does not appear to be on the cards anytime soon.
Ngannou said in March he was close to signing a new contract with MMA promotions Bellator and ONE but nothing has materialized so far. Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has urged Ngannou to call up Dana White and get back into the UFC as that’s where his biggest payday is likely to be!
